Dear Dr. Salakjit
I'm Nui and I'm on exchange in New Brunswick, Canada. This is my 9th month that I have been here. Unfortunately, the time has gone by really fast, I am having a very great time here. After I got back from NYC, I moved in with my last host family. In the house there are 3 boys and 4 girls (including me); 2 of my sisters go to the same school as me. We always have lots of activities to do. Last month, I helped serve desserts for a Euro trip fundraising Dessert Theater, a trip that one of my host sisters will be going on at the end of June.
There was the orientation for outbound students from my district two weeks ago; of course all inbound students had to go to present their own country to the students who are going to the same country as they live. Nobody is going to Thailand but there were some of them who really interested in Thai culture and language. I showed them some pictures from the Bus trip in Thailand and we had a chance to exchange our pins, they said that they like Thai stuff so much, which made me very happy. There were few people who wanted to know how to say hello and introduce their selves in Thai, so I taught them how. We all had a great time there.
Last time I talked about a Biology project that I and some other students participated in, last week we were all were on the local newspaper, it says about our project, and how we got third place in the annual science competition that the biology project was created for, we won $1000 for our work in the Sanofi-Aventis Challenge. Each of us received a cheque for $125 and our school received $500 cheque. There were four of us Keif, Logan, Zoe who use to be my host sister and I. Our project was called “The effects of Paclobutrazol and acetylsalicylic acid on the processing characteristics of Shepody potatoes”, the project was related to health care, agriculture and forestry, food processing, mining and the environment and had include scientific experiments. We had spent about two hours every two weeks working on the project since last fall until the day before the competition.
Last weekend, my host mom, one of my host sisters and I were invited by Dr. Larry Kennedy, a Liberal party representative, to go see the Governor General, a spokes person and representative for the Queen of England in
Fredericton which is the capital city in New Brunswick. My host sister and I got a really great opportunity to take a picture with the Governor General also with Shawn Graham, the premier of New Brunswick, after that we had a
little conversation with the Governor General; I was very pleased about it. We also went to an art gallery which had lots of old paintings; some were from the year 1400.
The most successful thing when people go on exchange, I think, is when you get to call your host parents mom and dad, also your host family feel like you are really a part of the family. Gladly, I got to call my last host parents MOM and DAD, also I am a little sister for my host siblings, even though I am not a youngest but it is because I am a smallest. I am definitely having a very great time here. I really feel that I am the part of family.
At last but not least, I only have 2 months left from now so my host family is going to canoe trip as soon as possible, before I leave. That sounds pretty excited for me
